Bill McKibben is know for being not only an environmentalist, but an educator and author as well. A native to Massachusetts he used to write for the New Yorker magazine. He published his first book in 1989 about climate change, The End of Nature, and it has been printed in up to twenty different languages. Since then he has written a multitude of books and essays as well as contributions to various magazines. His latest book Eaarth, McKibben discusses how we need to change in order to continue to live on Earth. He says that we have 'created a new planet' with all new kinds of things. We need to scale back and concentrate on the essential things in life before things become unbalanced and unrecoverable. You can find the rest of Bill McKibben's books here.
McKibben in also the co-founder of 350.org which is a global movement toward the solution to climate change. They want to preserve the planet and their main goal is to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere down to at least 350 parts per million.
