Fracking

Fracking is the hydraulic fracturing of shale rock layers within the Earth's surface in order to extract natural gasses.   Water is mixed with pother components that are used to create cracks (fissures or fractures) in order to release the gasses into collection wells.  Groundwater is at risk for contamination from fracking fluid during these processes.
